Giving Back

Sunrise Behavioral Health cares deeply about the healthy development of all the people in our community. Therefore, it is important that we, as healthcare providers, contribute to the Hampton Roads neighborhoods in which we serve. To us, giving back is a major part of our existence.

As we continue our fight against mental illness, we vow to work with residents, local leaders, faith-based organizations, and government departments to identify shared goals. Together we can determine the best opportunities to "pay it forward."

Through our outreach program, we are eager to engage with members of the community to provide support, information resources and to educate the public about the importance of mental health. Too often, misinformation is a barrier between mental health services and those that need them. It is our intent to tear down those walls to help people begin their road to recovery. Sunrise Behavioral Health, is relentlessly dedicated to making wellness our top priority and helping people receive treatment.

Back at our facility, we offer free workshop sessions designed to help people improve their daily lives and be more productive. For example, our upcoming mentoring program will unite local stakeholders and children at risk to pave a path to a brighter future for them.

We proudly acknowledge Virginia Beach and Norfolk as homes to the highest concentration of U.S. Military servicemen. For this community, we offer private therapy for the brave men and women that served our country and their families. For these programs, Sunrise provides clinicians that have a long history of dealing with members of the military and their mental health issues.

The need for mental health care routinely becomes headline news during the aftermath of a major tragedy involving someone with mental illness. While the focus on wellness is needed, the context of the conversation can be misleading to the general public. For example, many people believe that those that suffer from disorders are usually violent and unpredictable. However, the facts contradict this myth. The truth is, a person with a mental illness is more likely to be a victim of violence. Also, most are also gainfully employed with viable careers. Many psychologists believe that nearly all of us probably work with or go to school with someone experiencing a mental health problem.
